The member representing Udi/Ezeagu Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Sunday Cyriacus Umeha alongside 35 other Lawmakers have been inaugurated as members of the House Committee on Constitution Review.

Inaugurating the committee on Monday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Dr Tajudeen Abbas said the review would be guided by the spirit of transparency, oneness, inclusivity and national cohesion.

According to Abbas, the parliament will work hand-in-hand with the executive arm of government at the federal and state levels to ensure that the process enjoys the backing of Nigerians.

The constitution review exercise is expected to be completed within 24 months.

The 36-man Committee drawn from each State of the Federation has a clear, yet tasking mandate of aggregating the views of Nigerians towards arriving at a Constitution more reflective of the times and the will of the Nigerian people.

Speaking shortly after their inauguration, Umeha who’s the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Justice, thanked the Speaker for finding him worthy to be in the committee and assured of his commitment to working with other members to deliver on the mandate of the committee.

“I thank the Honourable Speaker for finding me worthy of membership of this August Committee which would be undertaking what would be one of the most consequential interventions of the 10th Assembly and I look forward to working closely with the Chairman of the Committee and Deputy Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, as well as other members towards delivering on this historical mandate.”
