Former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi has bemoaned the declining level of security in Nigeria.

The flag-bearer of the Labour Party in the general elections of 2023, wrote on his official X (formerly known as Twitter) account that he was shocked to learn that farmers in Northern Nigeria now have to pay bandits as much as N100,000 for permission to farm, or else they risk being attacked. He did this while citing the various reports of terror attacks in recent times.

His words, “These are happening at a time when we need more hands on the farms to enable us to produce enough foods for local consumption, stem the galloping food inflation, and build a productive economy and nation for ourselves.”

Commending the efforts of the security agencies, the politician who recently won Leadership’s Politician of the Year 2023 award remarked that more work must be done to stop the nation from sliding into anarchy.
