In commemoration of this year’s International Women’s Day, Nigeria’s frontline humanitarian activist and high-profile social entrepreneur, Comrade Kennedy Iyere hosted several women groups in Abuja to a befitting dinner in one of the most luxurious restaurants in Abuja.
Iyere said the gesture is because of his conviction that women deserve nothing less than the best.
“Women remain the backbone of our homes, they build the family and secure the household economy. They go through a lot of things just to ensure that the well-being of the family is intact. They deny themselves lots of good things in life just to secure the welfare of their homes and families, especially at this time of untold economic hardship, it beats my imagination how women are still able to keep the household economy. These women are still able to put food on the table and feed the family. Women are magicians when it comes to keeping and building the family. There can be no nation without the family, which means that women are the true builders of any nation. This is why they deserve to be celebrated”, Iyere said.
Women groups who participated in the 2024 women’s day celebration dinner organized in Abuja by Comrade Kennedy Iyere were invited from different women’s networks cutting across NGOs, CSOs, FBOs, Cooperative Societies, Ethnic Groups, as well as those who represented Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of both Federal and State Government. Comrade Iyere also seized the opportunity to appeal to governments at both Federal and State levels to see the need to give financial incentives to support women in their career or business pursuits. Iyere likewise appealed to wealthy Nigerians to set up foundations that will largely help to finance and advance the struggle for women economic inclusion and financial freedom.
“Women are smart people and Nigerian women are a super smart breed. But all they lack, is the access to financial incentives, which will enable them to shoot their dreams to the sky. This was the reason I established a Cooperative Society known as FUND-YES, whose aim is to groom women to become successful entrepreneurs and also give them a flexible access to business financing. While I celebrate women today, I want to seize the opportunity to appeal to government and wealthy Nigerians to see the need to provide for women the financial incentives needs to pursue and actualize their dreams, especially their desire for financial freedom”, Iyere affirmed.
Iyere advised Nigerian girls and women not to loose sight of their life goals regardless of the economic difficulties they are confronted with. He advised them to stay focused and remained undeterred. He told them that life will be found at the end of the tunnels. “Women are a resilient human specie, they are bold, brave and fearless, they have the capacity to bring water out of the rock which means they have strong resilience against discouragement. My advice for them is to continue with their resilient spirit because betters days are ahead of Nigeria and women will help to achieve that dream”, Iyere said.
