…10 best students to get N100,000 per semester

Renown Engineer and human capacity developer, Engr. Lawrence Uzor has given bursary award worth two million five hundred thousand naira (#2,500,000.00) to selected students from Ezeagu local government area of Enugu State.

The presentation of the bursary award to the 100 beneficiaries which was heralded by a Holy Mass at Sacred Heart Parish, Iwollo, held on Sunday, 10th March, 2024.

Speaking to newsmen after handing over the cash to the beneficiaries, Engr. Uzor said this is in fulfilment of the promise he made about a month ago.

“This is just our own little way of giving back to the society from what God has given to us. Our aim is to help in ameliorating the suffering of our students occasioned by the harsh economic realities in the country. The economy is tough, things are very difficult. i was once an undergraduate and i know what they’re passing through.

He added that this is just one out of the many supports that he will be giving to the students.

“We’re going to select the 10 best students and place them on N100,000 allowance per semester for the next four years and even those that are in 3rd or 4th year, if they’re selected, will  still enjoy the payment for four years because we need to help them get direction after school and those still in school, we want to ensure that they finish whatever they’ve started in their academic pursuit.

“This is  call for you to take your studies more serious because that will be a yardstick for the selecting of the best 5 male and best 5 female that will benefit.”

While promising to do more, he charged them to channel whatever they’ve been given into their academics and don’t waste it on frivolities. He also encouraged them to continue reading their books to make their parents and the society at large proud.

In his goodwill message, Barr. Peter Anagbaoso, former Transition Committee Chairman of Ezeagu local government area, thanked Engr. Uzor for the gesture and charged the students to reciprocate this kind gesture by taking their academics serious.

Some of the beneficiaries that spoke to our correspondent, expressed their gratitude and prayed to God to bless Engr. Uzor and grant him his heart desires.

Ezinwa Mmesoma, a student of Institute of Management Technology (IMT) Enugu, who’s studying Biochemistry (SLT) said she “feels privileged for being selected and this money will go a long way in helping us sort some of our needs in school.

Ms. Ezinwa who hails from Umuodoma village in Umumba Ndi uno, prayed to God to give their benefactor more knowledge, bless his family and provide for him in every aspect of his life.

Another recipient of the award, Aneke Joseph from Umudim in Mgbagbuowa who couldn’t hide his joy said “this financial support is really needed at this moment, I’m not going to lie, so i feel very happy and encouraged because it’s rare to see someone coming out to say he wants to support students and actually do it and not making promises.

Aneke, a student of University of Nigeria Nsukka, studying meteorological and materials Engineering said the Bursary will help him get some items in school like lecture notes and prayed to God to continue blessing their benefactor.
