An explosion rocked the Dawaki area in the Bwari Local Government Area of Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, resulting in one person sustaining injuries. The incident occurred at approximately 8:30 am on Friday, according to reports.

Residents of the area recounted hearing a loud bang originating from a one-bedroom apartment housing two male occupants.

Despite one of the occupants claiming it was a cooking gas explosion, witnesses noted the absence of a gas odor and any signs of fire. Additionally, while the blast damaged several windows of the flat, the kitchen window remained intact.

Speaking on the incident, a resident stated, “We heard a loud blast sound within Dawaki. The noise emanated from a one-bedroom apartment with two male occupants. One of the occupants was injured and taken to the National Hospital, Abuja for treatment.”

The resident continued, “The second occupant alleged that it was a cooking gas explosion. However, there was no smell of gas, no fire, and the kitchen window (circled in the picture) was spared while other windows of the flat were damaged.”

The matter has been reported to the Dwaki police station, but concerns have been raised about the need for a bomb ordnance squad from the FCT command to visit the scene and ascertain the true cause of the explosion.

Despite efforts to reach Josephine Adeh, the FCT police spokesperson, for comment, all attempts were unsuccessful as she did not answer calls or respond to messages sent to her mobile line.

Authorities are expected to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident to determine its cause and prevent any potential future occurrences. Further updates on the situation will be provided as information becomes available.
