An eyewitness has shed light on the events leading to the tragic boat accident that claimed the life of Nollywood actor, John Paul Odonwodo, popularly known as Junior Pope, on Wednesday, April 10.
As reported by LIB, the actor met his demise after drowning while aboard a boat returning from a movie set.
According to the eyewitness, the boat carrying Junior Pope collided with another vessel transporting passengers, causing both boats to capsize in the river.
He also blamed the boat driver for not being meticulous and lacking concentration while on the trip. The eyewitness explained that the driver of the boat carrying Junior Pope failed to spot an approaching vessel in time, leading to the collision. Unfortunately, there were no divers nearby to aid in the rescue efforts.
Additionally, the witness revealed that some victims managed to cling to the rope of a capsized boat, eventually finding refuge on another vessel until help arrived. Fortunately, rescuers aboard another boat spotted them in time and successfully rescued them.
As of now, three bodies, including that of Junior Pope, have been recovered, while search operations continue in hopes of retrieving the bodies of other victims.
