The Ìgwè elect of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State, High Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna, gave this advice on Sunday through his Mothering Sunday message to Catholic mothers worldwide.

He stated that mothers hold a unique and irreplaceable role in shaping the future, nurturing the next generation, and instilling values that resonate through generations.

He posited that throughout history, mothers have been pillars of strength, resilience, and love, citing the role played by Mary, the mother of Jesus, in guiding her son as a reference point.

Chief Ogbonna also described mothers as beacons of hope and stability, whose nurturing presence fosters a sense of security and belonging within the family unit.

He further underscored the invaluable contributions of mothers to families, communities, and society at large, urging all to emulate their love, compassion, and strength, working together to create a world where every mother is revered and supported in her noble calling.

The statement reads:
Dear Catholic Mothers,

*Message of Felicitations on 2024 mothering Sunday *

As we celebrate Mothering Sunday in 2024, it’s imperative to reflect on the profound significance of motherhood in society. Mothers hold a unique and irreplaceable role in shaping the future, nurturing the next generation, and instilling values that resonate through generations. In Proverbs 31:26-27, it’s written: “She opens her mouth with wisdom, and the teaching of kindness is on her tongue. She looks well to the ways of her household and does not eat the bread of idleness.” This verse encapsulates the essence of a mother’s duty to lead with wisdom and compassion.

Throughout history, mothers have been pillars of strength, resilience, and love. Just as Mary, the mother of Jesus, played a pivotal role in nurturing and guiding her son, mothers today continue to mold and shape their children with unwavering dedication. Proverbs 22:6 reminds us: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.” This underscores the responsibility mothers bear in imparting values and faith to their children.

In a world filled with challenges and uncertainties, mothers serve as beacons of hope and stability. Their nurturing presence fosters a sense of security and belonging within the family unit. As stated in Isaiah 66:13: “As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you; you shall be comforted in Jerusalem.” This verse highlights the comforting and nurturing nature inherent in motherhood, providing solace in times of distress.

The sacrifices mothers make, often selflessly, for the well-being and happiness of their children are unparalleled. Their love knows no bounds, transcending all obstacles and hardships. Just as it’s written in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7: “Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

On this Mothering Sunday, let us honor and cherish the mothers in our lives, recognizing their invaluable contributions to our families, communities, and society at large. Let us strive to emulate their virtues of love, compassion, and strength, working together to create a world where every mother is revered and supported in her noble calling. As it’s written in Proverbs 31:28: “Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.” May we all rise up to honor and bless the mothers among us, today and always.

With heartfelt gratitude and admiration,

Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr.
