Following the spate of deaths that hit practitioners of the Nigerian movie in recent times, the Actors Guild of Nigeria has set out four days to pray for God’s protection over its members.

On March 2, veteran actor and comedian, John Ikechukwu Okafor, popularly known as Mr. Ibu died after battling a protracted illness. A day before, popular Yoruba actor, Sisi Quadri died after a brief illness at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso.

On March 24, the death of Nigerian actor, producer and comedian, Amaechi Muonagor was announced. Not long after, on April 10, famous actor, Junior Pope Odunwodo died in a drowning incident which also claimed the lives of five other industry practitioners.

Bothered by the unfortunate incidents, the AGN has teamed up with the famous Pastor Jerry Eze, the founder of Streams of Joy International and convener of the New Season Prophetic Prayers and Declaration (NSPPD), an online digital prayer meeting for a four-day prayer session.

A statement from the AGN’s president, Emeka Nobis states that the body has decided to seek divine intervention in fasting and prayers to avert similar occurrences in the future.

“Join us on the Alter of Fire from 2nd May to 5th May 2024 for prayers and declarations to deal with this ugly reproach. Actors cannot continue to die like chickens. Let us reclaim our spiritual airways and highways that seem to have been hijacked by certain powers.

“Other members of the Nollywood are free to join in this programme. I appeal to all NSPDians all over the world and all lovers of actors in Nollywood to join us in this programme,” the statement reads.
