The Commissioner of Police, Enugu State Command, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), today, April 30, 2024, held a conference with his management members and supervisory officers, comprising Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs), and Heads of Operational, Tactical, and other Units, to review and devise new strategies to combat existing and emerging crimes, particularly violent crimes in the State. He commended the high sense of commitment and dexterity generally exhibited by the officers in the discharge of their duties.
The CP, however, warns the officers against laxity and lapses capable of undermining the unwavering determination of the command to fight crimes and criminality in the State to a standstill. He further stressed that he will not hesitate to hold anyone found wanting vicariously liable.
Speaking further, the Commissioner emphasized that the recent incidents of the unwarranted and senseless gruesome murder of innocent citizens at Nimbo and Adani communities in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area and other acts of violent crime in the State cannot be tolerated moving forward. Hence, he charges the officers to redouble their efforts and ensure that diehard and unrepentant criminals and their activities are completely rooted out in their respective operational jurisdictions.
During the conference, the CP received and addressed members of the Police Special Constabularies, charging them to be up and doing, make themselves available, and be ready to perform their assigned roles. He consequently directed Area Commanders and DPOs to fully co-opt the Special Constabularies and relevant members of the community in their policing activities as stipulated in the Community Policing Policy guidelines.
Furthermore, recipients of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) Awards and Commendations on April 15, 2024, in Abuja, Nigeria, were received during the conference. The recipients include the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who received Commendation for his outstanding performance in public relations in the NPF in 2023; Inspector Onyia Evaristus, recipient of the detective of the year Award in the Nigeria Police in 2023; and Traffic Warden Salisu Haruna, who also received Commendation for his outstanding performance in traffic control and management in the NPF the same year.
Similarly, personnel of the Command, who participated and won laurels in the recently concluded 14th Edition of the Biennial Police Games (BIPOGA) held in Oyo State, were received and commended for their doggedness and making the Command proud. The personnel, who formed part of the Zone 13 Police Command contingent to the Games, won a total of twenty-two gold, thirty silver, and twenty-nine bronze medals.
In a different development, the Commissioner further received a delegate from the Executive Intelligence Course 17, Syndicate 1, Participants of the National Institute for Security Studies, who visited the Command as part of their study tour of Enugu State.
The CP interacted with the delegation on the theme: Artificial Intelligence, Security, and Emerging Economies in Africa: Challenges and Prospects in Enugu State. He encouraged the course participants to utilize the opportunity of the study tour and participation in the course to build their capacity and add the needed value when they complete the course and return to their respective organizations. The delegation, made up of the Institute’s faculty members and course participants, was led by Mr. R. A. Bolarinwa.
