Former Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Chinedum Enyinnaya Orji, has joined the growing list of politicians that have resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state.
Enyinnaya is the son of Theodore Orji, a former Governor of Abia State and national leader of the PDP.
The ex-speaker announced his resignation via a letter addressed to the Chairman of PDP in his urban I ward on Monday, saying the move had become very necessary.
“This is to formally notify you of my resignation from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with effect from today.
“Kindly note that this decision is taken after extensive consultations.
“I thank the Party for giving me the platform which culminated in my being elected as Speaker of Abia State House of Assembly.
“Accept my warmest regards,” he said.
The resignation is coming shortly after Chris Nwagboso, a former Deputy Chief of Staff (office of the Deputy Governor), in Abia State, resigned his membership of the PDP.
Nwagboso made his resignation known in a letter he personally addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman, Ehi-Na-Uguru/Osokwa Ward 5, Isiala Ngwa South LGA, Abia State.
In a similar development, the entire executive committee members of the PDP, Item ward C, in Bende local government area of the State, have also resigned from the party.
Recall that the PDP lost the last gubernatorial election in the State to the Labour Party, LP, with Alex Otti emerging as the governor.
