Barely 16 days after Dana Air was shut down by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authorities, another Nigeria aircraft belonging to XEJET Airlines also skidded the runway and landed in the grass.
Following this development, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria has shut the 18/Left runway of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.
The Airbus with registration 5N-BZZ with 52 passengers departed Abuja and landed in Lagos at 11.29 am..
The NSIB noted that the aircraft belonging to Xejet Airlines skidded off the runway of the domestic wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport.
In 2023, Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) suspended the operations of Xejet Airlines over alleged fake insurance certificates for its Embraer 145 aircraft.
A letter NCAA/DGCAIGC/8/16/628, to the Accountable Manager XeJet Limited, dated Wednesday August 30, 2023, titled, ‘Notice of Suspension of the Air Transport License (ATL) and Air Operators Certificate (AOC) EXJETJAOC/01-22/00’, signed by the Director General of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, stated that the aircraft insurance documents did not emanate from Consolidated Hallmark Insurance as claimed by the airline.
