The Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, explained that President Bola has solved the major setback affecting Nigeria’s power sector, which is the legacy debts owed to gas and generation companies.
Adelabu revealed this at a sectoral briefing in Abuja on Friday.
He further stated that the government under Tinubu has given the nod to end the country’s power sector challenges.
His words, “One of the major setbacks is the debt owed to gas and power generating companies. Today, we have secured President Tinubu’s approval to pay the debts.
So we have resolved this problem. All we are doing now is following up on the presidential approval. This will go a long way towards stabilising the power sector,” he stated.
The development comes as Nigeria owes gas and generation companies a legacy debt of over N3 trillion.
In several forums, the government blamed the debt for the country’s epileptic power supply nationwide.
