A key member of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Buba Galadima has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s promise to continue former President Muhammadu Buhari’s policies, calling it an extension of problematic governance.

In an interview with Saturday Sun in Abuja, Galadima argued that Tinubu’s commitment to uphold Buhari’s policies contradicts his administration’s stance of distancing itself from current national challenges.

“Tinubu should take responsibility for his office, having stated his intent to follow Buhari’s footsteps. It is unfair to now blame Buhari,” Galadima asserted.

Galadima, a former ally of Buhari, added, “Everyone knows Buhari damaged the economy and security, but Tinubu promised to build on what Buhari left. He can’t blame Buhari now.”

He also opposed establishing state police, warning it could lead to misuse and negatively impact governors in the future.

Addressing accusations of nepotism against Tinubu, Galadima said the presidential system inherently involves appointing trusted individuals. He cited examples from the US, like President Kennedy appointing his brother as Attorney-General, to illustrate that it’s common practice.

“What matters is accountability and good governance, not who is appointed,” Galadima concluded.
