The Senator representing Enugu East Senatorial zone, Senator Sir Kelvin Chukwu, on Sunday, flagged off the construction of the Agbani-Amurri-Ugbawka roads which he attracted for his constituents.
Speaking at the flag off ceremony which took place in Amurri, Senator Chukwu said the project is just a tip of the iceberg as more are coming.
“I can assure you that we’re just getting started and in the coming months, two more roads will be flagged off in Nkanu land. This is because, we want our scorecard to speak for us after four years.”
He said that the project when completed, “will enhance connectivity, promote economic activities, and improve the overall quality of life of our people and this is sole reason I’m in Abuja.”
The Senator assured the people of Enugu East district that no part of the zone will be ignored as he will continue to prioritise their welfare, adding that no sector will be left unattended to.
“There are concrete plans at improving healthcare, give the youths a new leaf of life, improve education and promoting ideas that will help the economic situation of our people,” and urged them to continue to support his efforts and remain united in the pursuit of progress and development of their place.
Senator Chukwu said he has absolute confidence on the contractor that will handle the project and assured the people that a quality job will be done.
His Royal Highness Igwe Fidelis Nsiegbu, who spoke on behalf of all the traditional rulers in Amurri, said “this road has wiped away our tears after so many years of failed promises despite budgetry allocations.”
Igwe Nsiegbu went on to appreciate the former governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi who did a part of the road and thanked Senator Chukwu for the project, while calling on all Amurri people to support the project in any way they can.
He urged the contractor handling the project to do a diligent job and give them a quality road that will stand the test of time.
Also, the President General (PG) of Enuagu Amurri, John Nwani who spoke on behalf of the other PGs in Amurri Town, re-echoed the demand for a quality work that will not be washed away by rainfall and assured them that they’ll provide adequate security for the contractors and asked them not to exercise any fear.
Seeking the support of the youth and residents of the communities, the contractor handling the project, Chief Donald Ekete, assured the people that he will exceed their expectations, adding that they have nothing to fear.
Chief Ekete further disclosed that the road which is 7.7km will be done in phases and in line with the best standard while appealing to the residents to endure the inconveniences that will come with the construction of the project.
He assured them that the project will not only develop their community, but will grow their economy because most of their people will be engaged in various services.
