The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Police Command CP Nnaghe Obono Itam, has commended the Members of Anambra House of Assembly and Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the passing and signing into law, the anti-cultism and anti-touting bill.

The bill which was signed into law on the 11th of June, 2024 by the governor, prescribes a jail term of a minimum of 21 years with no option of fine on any person found culpable of cult-related activities.

The law also prescribes for the legal confinement for six months or the option to pay half a million naira on anyone harassing innocent individuals to obtain illegal tolls, illegal scalpers, or any related activities in the State.

In a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, “the commissioner of police “noted that these developments shall further reecho the campaign and stand against touting and cultism, especially the Police on the advocacy program; Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices POCACOV, a program targeted at sensitizing the youths of the dangers of bad groups, drugs, and other vices.

“Therefore, the CP warns criminal elements in this guise to repent as the Command shall make sure anyone found culpable will be made to face the full weight of the law. He also urges parents/guardians to admonish their children/wards in this regard”
