The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been advised to conduct an election to put an end to the Emirship tussle in Kano State.

Former Kaduna Central Senator, Shehu Sani gave the advice on his X page.

Recall that the court on Thursday invalidated the Kano Emirate Council (Amendment No. 2) Law, 2024, which had dissolved four out of the five emirate councils in the state and removed all five emirs, including Aminu Ado-Bayero of Kano, last month.

Judge Abdullahi Liman ruled that the appointment of Mr. Sanusi as the Kano emir was null and void because the government did not comply with a court order prohibiting further action on the new emirate council law.

The judge criticized Governor Yusuf’s speech during the presentation of Mr. Sanusi’s reappointment letter, calling it a path to anarchy.

He stated that if a court order cannot be respected despite evidence of its service, the government is heading towards chaos.

Reacting to the development, Shehu Sani suggested that INEC intervenes in the matter.

He wrote:

“INEC should just be invited to conduct election for the two contending Emirs,I can volunteer to serve as the returning officer.Bivas can be used”.
