Unknown gunmen on Saturday abducted the police orderly and driver of the Paramount Ruler of Rumu-Elechi, Nkpolu-Orowurokwo community, His Royal Highness, Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, along Eagle Island road at about 8pm in Port Harcourt.
Chief Cornwell Ihunwo, is the immediate younger brother of Victor Ihunwo, a politician and former Chairman of Port Harcourt City Local Government Area.
Confirming the development, God’stime Ihunwo, the Chief Security Officer of Nkpolu-Orowurokwo who is also a senior member of the Diobu Vigilante, a local security outfit in the area, said he got wind of the abduction on Saturday night.
He added that upon hearing the news, he rushed to the house of the monarch at Eagle Island area of Port Harcourt, where the monarch who was at home confided in him that the gunmen whisked away his police orderly and driver.
Ihunwo said, “I received a call about abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo about 9pm on Saturday 22nd June, 2024.
“I rushed down to his house at Eagle Island where I met him. Chief Cornwell told me it is his driver and Police orderly who were abducted.
“We condemn the planned abduction of HRH Cornwell Ihunwo and call on the Police to ensure a thorough investigation into the incident.”
When contacted, the Public Relations Officer for the Rivers State Police Command, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed the incident, adding that investigation had been launched.
