Hon. Okechukwu Sydney Edeh

The Enugu Transparency Watch and her sister partners have withdrawn the petitions against the former Chairman of Nkanu East LGA and the ALGON chairman Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh.

The groups had petitioned the Economics and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC to investigate and arrest the former council boss over alleged corruption and misappropriation of the council funds when he held sway.

The withdrawal of the petition and subsequent apology to Hon. Edeh was confirmed to Journalist101 by the leaders of the groups; Comrade David C. Ani , Nonso Nnaji and others.

According to them, “the petition wasn’t done in bad taste but born out of the calls by the public for the former Chairman to be probed. However, on a closer look, we discovered that these calls came from people sponsored by political figures in our council.

“However, after various painstaking investigation, we realised that Hon. Edeh stands tall among the former Chairmen of Nkanu East local government area and the allegations weren’t just baseless but politically motivated to tarnish the image of the Chairman and for this, we’re very sorry.”

The groups went further to state that after their investigation, they discovered that as a chairman, Edeh completed the following projects; construction of major and minor bridges in various communities, construction of the most important building in the Local Government secretariat, road constructions and he put in place, a very good measure in place for the security of the council, among others.
