2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Mr Peter Obi has congratulated the duo of Sandie Okoro and Maureen Okam Achebe for their achievements at the international scene.
While Sandie Okoro; a Nigerian-British lawyer, was appointed the New Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, and the first-ever woman to hold the position, Maureen Okam Achebe received the Brigham and Women’s Hospital 2024 Faculty Development and Diversity Award.
In a statement released on his X account, the former Anambra Governor said: “These exceptional personalities have continued to rise above their challenges and achieve greatness in different fields of endeavour,” and also appreciated them “for remaining good ambassadors of our dear nation.”
His statement reads:
Thrilled by the remarkable achievements of fellow Nigerians who have continued to distinguish themselves on the global stage, I once again like to celebrate them. These exceptional personalities have continued to rise above their challenges and achieve greatness in different fields of endeavour.
I would firstly love to celebrate a Nigerian-British lawyer, Sandie Okoro, who has just been appointed the New Chancellor of the University of Birmingham, and the first-ever woman to hold the admirable position.
She has, before now, held many highly placed positions, where she has continued to fight against injustice and promote equality in society.
I also like to celebrate another cerebral Nigerian, Maureen Okam Achebe, a renowned novelist, who has just received the Brigham and Women’s Hospital 2024 Faculty Development and Diversity Award, which seeks to acknowledge the exceptional achievements of the awardees in clinical care, research, education, and community service.
I congratulate them, sincerely, for achieving these feats and for remaining good ambassadors of our dear nation. As we navigate the present dark moments of our nation into the glorious dawn of a New Nigeria, we remain unwavering in our commitment to building a nation where our youths will, through hard work, excel in life and shine on the global stage.
A New Nigeria is indeed POssible and within reach. -PO
