A 37-year-old man identified as Nathaniel Abraham sustained bullet injury when policemen of the anti-kidnapping unit of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) command foiled a kidnap attempt at El-Rufai Estate in Bwari Area Council of the FCT.
A resident of Bwari, Enoch Lazarus, who confirmed the incident, said it happened around 1:48 am on Wednesday.
The kidnappers invaded the estate and were about to abduct some residents when the police repelled them.
He said the kidnappers scaled through the back fence of the estate but the police anti-kidnap officers who were on patrol moved in to engage them.
According to him, the police and kidnappers exchanged gunfire for over 20 minutes.
“The kidnappers fled with bullet injuries but unfortunately, one of the occupants of the estate Nathaniel Abraham, was hit by a stray bullet on his arm and was taken to the hospital for treatment,” he said.
Spokeswoman of the FCT Police Command, SP Adeh Josephine, confirmed the incident to our reporter.
“Actually, the Bwari police division received a distress call that some hoodlums where about to attack El-Rufai estate, in which the police operatives were immediately alerted who rushed to the area to foil kidnap attempt at the estate,” she said.
