Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, say the demand for a new minimum wage by the organised Labour in Nigeria is in order and “therefore commands the total support of the Forum.”
The Governors after their meeting in Enugu under the auspices of PDP Governors’ Forum said “Labour’s demand for a substantial salary raise is eminently justified,” while lamenting that; “The minimum wage negotiations are becoming unduly protracted.”
In the communique released after their meeting held on Wednesday, 17th July, 2024, the chairman of the Forum and the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala A. Mohammed, CON, said that their support to the demand of labour is in their recognition of that “the attendant unprecedented hardship and impoverishment of majority of our people.”
“While the Forum fully supports Labour’s demand, agreement must take into consideration the ability to pay by the local government, sub-national and federal government.
“While negotiations are ongoing, we appeal for restraint in both utterances and actions that could lead to the complete breakdown of law and order and ultimately, the collapse of the economy.”
