Four people are feared to have been swept away by floodwaters in the Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State following a downpour late Thursday night.

The rain, which persisted through Friday and Saturday, caused severe flooding that reportedly claimed four victims, including a mother and child, in the industrial community.

Local sources said that the incidents occurred at various locations throughout the town, leading to widespread panic as families launched searches for the missing individuals.

One witness said; “Two people were swept away in Nnewichi, one along Nnobi Road and another along Nnewi-Onitsha Road. The mother and child were returning home from a church service when the tragedy struck.”

Currently, relatives of the victims are desperately searching for their loved ones, who have not been seen since Thursday.

When contacted, Dr. Madu Atuenyi, President-General of Nzuko-Ora (Nnewi Town Union), acknowledged hearing about the incident but had not yet verified the details.

When contacted, the Spokesperson of Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga said no such report is before him.
