Aisha Yesufu, a social and political critic, has asserted that Nigeria kills its own, while appealing for the Dangote Refinery not to be allowed to fail, Yesufu urged for collective efforts to ensure its success.
Her statement follows comments from the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, which stated that the Dangote refinery has not yet been licensed to begin operations in the country.
Farouk Ahmed, the Chief Executive Officer of NMDPRA, made these claims during a conversation with journalists at the State House in Abuja on Thursday.
Ahmed revealed that the refinery remains in the pre-commissioning stage and has not yet received its license. He expressed concerns about the quality of petroleum products produced by the Dangote refinery.
He alleged that the quality of products from the new refinery was inferior to imported commodities.
“In terms of quality, the current AGO quality regarding sulfur is the lowest compared to West African requirements of 50 ppm,” he stated.
In response to a call from an X user, @Oluseun Onigbinde, for the regulator to be sanctioned for its claims against the Dangote refinery, Yesufu urged Nigerians to speak up.
The social critic emphasized that Alhaji Dangote is experiencing what Nigerian businesspeople without government connections frequently endure.
She stated, “Nigeria kills its own. I truly agree with you; the refinery should not fail. All hands should be on deck to ensure its success.
“Alhaji Dangote (@AlikoDangote) now understands the struggles faced by Nigerian businesspeople lacking government connections.
“How dreams are stolen and destroyed. Just yesterday, LandMark got its share, and there was silence from the business community.
“When you speak up for others who are affected, it is to ensure that such injustices are stopped so they don’t reach you.”
