…Says process peaceful, free, fair, credible
Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Mbah, has praised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ward congresses in the state as a tremendous success, emphasizing that the process was peaceful, free, fair, and credible.
The Chairman of the five-member PDP Ward Congresses Electoral Committee for Enugu State, Toni Iyoha, who monitored the exercise across the 260 electoral wards, also commended party members for their commitment to a transparent and orderly process, stating that the party’s strength lies at the grassroots.
Governor Mbah expressed his joy at the significant turnout for the congresses throughout the state, asserting that the few setbacks experienced by the PDP in the last general elections were an anomaly rather than the standard. He assured that the party would continue to build on its successes.
The governor made these remarks while responding to questions from journalists at his Owo Ward in Nkanu East LGA, where he participated in the congress.
He stated, “We are truly delighted, not just because of the outcomes and turnout we witnessed today, but also due to the manner in which the people conducted themselves, particularly as they recognized that this is a family affair.
“This is the essence of our party. We believe in entrenching democracy at the grassroots level because the strength of our party is determined by our visibility within the community, and the number of people who turned out attests to that.
“We are equally not surprised by the influx of people eager to join the PDP family. Since the advent of the Fourth Republic, Enugu has been a PDP stronghold. For the past 25 years, we have benefited from steady leadership in the state, and we know that this has positively impacted our lives as a people.”
Following the monitoring exercise at Owo Ward, Chairman of the PDP Ward Congress Electoral Committee, Iyoha, remarked that his observations throughout the state reflect the happiness of the people with both the PDP and the Mbah Administration.
