…Warns about failing aides in time of need

Denge Josef Onoh, the former southeast campaign spokesman for President Bola Tinubu, has expressed concern about the silence of many of the President’s appointees during this critical moment when the administration faces anticipated mass protests.

Onoh, quoting verses from the Holy book, described the President’s appointees as disciples. He referenced Mark 16:15, where Jesus instructed his disciples, “Go into the world. Go everywhere and announce the Message of God’s good news to all.”

Onoh pointed out that although the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has claimed to identify foreign sponsors of the planned August 1-10 protests, which he argued aim to incite chaos and violence across the country, it is commendable that the Inspector General of Police (IGP) is stressing the importance of protesters registering with their respective state police commands.

“It’s also important to acknowledge the efforts of the DSS and the Nigerian Army, who are currently on high alert to prevent a breakdown of law and order, as well as the National Security Adviser, who has been working to ensure the safety of all, including potential protesters.

“In light of the anticipated protests, the President has truly demonstrated wisdom and capacity to lead. Even under pressure, you have shown your determination to set Nigeria on a path to greatness. Despite current challenges, Mr. President was able to sign the minimum wage bill into law and the judgment on local government autonomy—victories even your staunchest critics celebrated alongside Nigerians.

“Mr. President, while facing protests, you still assented to bills aimed at accelerating development across various geopolitical zones in the country. You have approved the North-West Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2024, and the South-East Development Commission (Establishment) Bill, 2023.

“You appointed 48 ministers, various members and chairpersons of university and polytechnic governing boards, special advisers, senior special advisers, and board chairpersons. These are your disciples, and their primary objective should be to promote your achievements and engage with the Nigerian public.

“It is concerning that the majority of your appointees and beneficiaries of your administration have remained silent during this challenging time as you confront the mounting anger of Nigerians threatening protests due to economic challenges inherited by your administration, not caused by your actions.

“While I may not agree with some of the words used by a few of your appointees during public engagements as the protests evolve, it is understandable that they express their frustration, and a brave few have stood by you when it mattered most.

“I greatly appreciate the efforts of FCT Minister Bar. Nyesom Wike, Chief Bayo Onanuga, Tunde Rhaman, Tope Ajayi, and Olusegun Dada. Although many may disagree with their methods, I would have acted similarly in their positions to defend their principal. Even Peter in the Bible drew a sword to cut off the ear of a Roman soldier during Jesus’ arrest. We can confidently say they amplified your voice when you needed it most.

“It is also essential to recognize the tireless efforts of Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, who has bravely defended this administration while urging calm among potential protesters. Similar appreciation goes to Governor Hope Uzodinma and the few APC governors who have resolutely supported you during this critical period.

“It is troubling that significant support comes from non-beneficiaries of your administration, such as Chief Femi Fani-Kayode, myself, Bar. Daniel Bwala (whose enduring access to you remains puzzling after his campaign slurs), Reno Omokri, Prince Ade Omole, and your committed supporters in various renewed hope mandate forums who continue to champion your cause—almost the only few remaining genuinely advocating for your government’s success.

“Even those who may benefit from your administration as future ambassadors seem to be waiting for their turn, with none of them currently speaking up for you. Ministers should be in their respective states engaging their constituents to discourage participation in protests. Just like me.”
