The member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency under the Labour Party, Hon. Chimaobi Atụ, has flagged off construction of additional two-kilometre link road in the Ugwuaji community of Enugu South council area to address economic hardship.
It is worth noting that on Tuesday, Atu previously flagged off construction of Eke Market–Umumba-Afor Market Road in Ndiagu village within Ugwuaji community to facilitate the evacuation of farm produce and foster economic development.
At the flagging off of the Ayo Station-Ndiagu-Obeagu Ugwuaji Link Road (Phase One) on Friday, Atu emphasized that the road serves as a vital connection to several inner roads within the Obeagu axis of Ugwuaji community.
The representative stated that the road would further open up the area, enhance the evacuation of farm produce, and promote economic opportunities aimed at alleviating the community’s hardships.
Speaking further, Atu noted that “immediately after taking office, we graded many of the unmotorable roads within our constituency to ease the suffering of our people. This was immediately followed by the award of scholarship to our sons and daughters that have today, completed their senior school certificate examinations.”
He remarked, “About three months ago, we held an empowerment and skill training program for hundreds of constituents, particularly women and youths, providing them with starter packs.”
“We have consistently delivered substantial benefits, which everyone here can attest to during the Christmas and Easter seasons. This is just a tip of the iceberg as we will continue to map out programs that will transform our constituency.
Atu also cautioned the contractor handling the road project to adhere strictly to the specifications, adding, “I will not spare any contractor who delivers substandard and shoddy roads to the people.”
He urged the community members to cooperate with the contractor and ensure that they are not short-changed, insisting that they deserve the best.
The representative additionally revealed that he has been advocating for the construction of no fewer than 37 kilometres of access and link roads within the constituency during his first two years in the House of Representatives.
Speaking at the event, Igwe Nwobodo Nyia, the Traditional Ruler of Obeagu Ugwuaji Autonomous Community, highlighted that Atu exemplifies what democracy should achieve in the lives of the people.
Nyia, the Ezeudo III of Ugwuaji, stated, “We have witnessed the fruits of democracy in action, and my subjects are overwhelmed with joy for this and many more developments to come. We are earnestly praying for your protection and elevation, as you have chosen to uplift our community. May God protect and support you in all your endeavors.”
Chief Chinwuba Ngwu, Chairman of the Labour Party in Enugu South LGA, noted that Atu’s achievements in a short period within the House of Representatives have been unprecedented, adding, “We are proud of Atu and have no regrets about supporting his candidacy.”
Ngwu emphasized that Atu has been vocal and actively involved in parliamentary activities while maintaining a close connection with his constituents.
In response, Chief Emma Uduezue, Chief Executive Officer of Uduezue and Sons Nigeria Limited, the contractor for the project, expressed gratitude to the traditional ruler and the community for their warm reception of him and his workers.
Uduezue assured the community that the company would deliver a quality and durable road, stating that “all standards, specifications, and timelines for the project will be maintained.”
A resident of the community, Chief Okeke Egbu-Nwachukwu, expressed gratitude to Atu and the Federal Government for the initiative.
Egbu-Nwachukwu remarked, “Once completed, this road will expedite access to the community center and significantly boost the economy of our area.”
