A prominent politician and former Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta State, Joan Mrapkpor, popularly known as ‘Ada Anioma,’ has been kidnapped by unknown assailants.

Mrapkpor, who previously served as a member of the Federal House of Representatives, was taken during a church service inside her place of worship.

According to LEADERSHIP, the incident occurred within the church, located near the Delta Broadcasting Service (DBS) in Asaba, the capital city of Delta State.

An eyewitness reported, “There was panic inside the church close to the police headquarters on DBS Road. We all ran for cover due to the heavy gunfire. It just happened a few minutes ago; one aide was shot dead, and a security personnel is now unconscious.”

Meanwhile, the spokesperson for the Delta State Police Command, SP Bright Edafe, has confirmed the abduction and the casualties involved.

Speaking about the incident, the Police Spokesman stated that the command lost one of its officers during the attack. SP Edafe added that the Police Command is actively pursuing the abductors and will provide more details on the incident in due course.
