The spokesperson for the Nigeria Police, Kano State Command, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, has found himself in a web of misinformation regarding the ongoing nationwide protest against hunger in Nigeria.

Journalist101 reports that the protest in Kano escalated into chaos as hoodlums invaded the Nigeria Communications Commission park and other shops in the state, looting everything in sight.

In response to this troubling situation, the police spokesperson resurrected a photo he had posted 13 years ago, captioned: “This isn’t a protest, but looting of innocent people’s properties.”

Debunking the post as misleading, one of the proponents of the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protest, Omoyele Sowore, shared a screenshot of the original post from 2011 and alleged, “The @officialABAT regime had already planned how to blackball Nigerians into submission even before this non-violent social change action started; this was posted by the Kano State @PoliceNG PPRO on Facebook today.

“He was caught red-handed because the same office had posted those photos back in 2011 on @facebook. You need to understand their game plan and stay focused,” Sowore stated via his official X account.
