The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations in Southeast Nigeria has applauded the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, Mrs. Kachollom Shangti Daju, for her exemplary leadership and transparency during the recent screening and examination process for selecting a new Medical Director (MD) for the Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital Enugu (FNHE).
“Our organization, dedicated to promoting accountability and improving service delivery in public institutions, recognizes and appreciates the transparent and credible manner in which the process held in Abuja was conducted,” the coalition stated.
A statement from Comrade Igboke Onyebuchi Martin, the convener of the coalition made available to newsmen in Enugu remarked that, “This is a significant step toward achieving lasting peace and stability within the institution.”
“We hope that other public administrators and civil servants will emulate Mrs. Daju’s commitment to credibility and due diligence, which will undoubtedly contribute to Nigeria’s regained glory.”
The coalition also acknowledged the Minister of State for Health’s efforts in creating an enabling environment for the process, free from undue interference.
“We look forward to the timely conclusion of the process and the official recognition of the successful candidate,” they added, stressing that the appointment should be purely based on merit.
Our correspondent gathered from a source close to the Ministry that, at the conclusion of the screening examination, the Acting Medical Director of the Enugu Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Dr. Mrs. Ngozi Unogu, reportedly performed poorly, scoring below 60%, which is the minimum score required for recommendation. In contrast, her only co-contestant, Dr. Andrew Orovwigho, a consultant at the hospital, scored well above 60% and is expected to be announced as the new MD of the hospital.
