Hon. Anayo Onwuegbu, the representative for Awgu, Aninri and Oji River Constituency in the Federal House of Representatives, has pledged essential support for the people of Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State. He specifically highlighted the need for urgent intervention on the road leading to Ibite Village within the community.

Onwuegbu made this commitment during the unveiling ceremony of the Ogugu Community Health Centre, which was reconstructed and equipped by Chief Fabian Nweke (Akụ ruo ụlọ, Ikenga Amabor Obodo Asaa) and his wife, Lolo Gloria Uchediya – Adaeze Nweke.

He acknowledged that the community has suffered from a lack of infrastructural development due to years of neglect, stating it is now time for positive change. He urged community leaders to come together and propose initiatives that will foster meaningful development in the coming years, while also calling for support for Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration.

Describing Governor Mbah as an effective leader whose development programs benefit every ward and sector, Onwuegbu emphasized the importance of the community’s stakeholders supporting the governor’s 10km road project initiative for each ward.

He also commended Mrs. Gloria Nweke and her family for their generous contributions, pledging to secure a 24-hour water supply for the hospital, the only functioning healthcare facility in the area.

“I am very pleased to be here, but at the same time uncomfortable,” Onwuegbu expressed. “While I was excited to be invited by the Igwe elect, the poor condition of the roads and infrastructure was disheartening. Ogugu Ntu-egbenese is an ancient community but remains underdeveloped. Development is a collective responsibility, and we all need to contribute to transforming our community. I will do my utmost to advocate for government intervention on this road. As a civil engineer, I have assessed its state, and I will pursue the necessary improvements.

“You have many distinguished sons and daughters, such as your Igwe elect, Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr., Dr. Ifechukwu Udeh, and Dr. Augustine Okolie. They must unite to secure development for this community.”

“Furthermore, we must fully support Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s administration. He has ambitious plans that will impact all sectors in Enugu State, particularly the 10km road policy that this community must rally behind. Enugu is fortunate to have a proactive governor in Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

“I commend Chief Fabian Nweke’s family for their generous actions and hope others will follow suit. Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom urgently requires infrastructural attention.”

Onwuegbu also emphasized the economic benefits that improved infrastructure would bring to the community. “Enhanced roads and healthcare facilities will attract businesses and investors, generate job opportunities, and elevate the overall quality of life in Ogugu Ntu-egbenese Ancient Kingdom. Let us take this opportunity to build a prosperous future for our children,” he stated.

Earlier, the Igwe elect, Chief Aloysius Chidozie Ogbonna Jnr., expressed gratitude for the positive changes in the community thus far. He noted the urgent need for government attention and openness to partnerships with community members and allies focused on developmental programs aimed at uplifting their people.

He also thanked Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for his dedication to improving life for Enugu citizens, including the construction of a type C hospital for the community.

Engr. Bennett Ude, President General of the Ogugu Progressive Union General Assembly (OPUGA), highlighted that the community hospital has faced severe infrastructural challenges, including dilapidated buildings and a critical shortage of medicines and essential equipment. He described the situation as a nightmare for the community, praising Mrs. Gloria Nweke’s intervention as transformative, likening her to Florence Nightingale for her dedication to healthcare in Ogugu.

“Our community has endured various infrastructural issues, from crumbling buildings to an alarming lack of genuine medications and equipment. This crisis has worsened the poverty rate and the misery index in Ogugu. Through her remarkable display of compassion, our sister Gloria Nweke has become our community’s own Florence Nightingale and a dedicated ambassador for healthcare.

“Her renovation and rehabilitation of the hospital include reroofing, retiling, and the installation of essential systems…”
