In response to the escalating nationwide protests against hunger and poor governance, the Kaduna State Security Council has implemented a 24-hour curfew in the Kaduna and Zaria metropolitan areas.
The #EndBadGovernance protests took a surprising turn on Monday when demonstrators waved Russian flags, a move that has alarmed both state and federal authorities.
Following a thorough assessment of the security situation, the Kaduna State Security Council, led by Governor Uba Sani, deemed the curfew necessary.
A statement from the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, signed by Samuel Aruwan, revealed that “there is sufficient evidence to indicate that the ongoing protests have been infiltrated by criminal elements who are engaging in looting and vandalism of both private and public property.”
“In light of this troubling development, the Kaduna State Security Council has unanimously decided to impose a 24-hour curfew on Kaduna and Zaria Metropolises and surrounding areas, effective immediately.”
The statement advised residents to “stay indoors while security forces work to restore safety and order.”
“Monitoring will continue to assess the need for any adjustments to the curfew.”
