A rampaging mob momentarily seized an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) belonging to the Nigeria Police Force, which had been deployed to quell the riot in Kaduna State on Monday.
The #EndBadGovernance protest, which started peacefully on Thursday, degenerated when suspected hoodlums hijacked it and began attacking innocent civilians.
Security operatives contained the situation, restoring normalcy afterward.
However, following President Bola Tinubu’s nationwide broadcast on Sunday, more protesters flooded the streets on Monday.
Some waved Russian flags and chanted anti-government slogans, expressing their frustration with poor leadership.
In the Tudun Wada area of Kaduna South Local Government, young men were seen atop a police Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC).
The protesters gathered in front of Shema Filling Station along Chawai Road, sitting all over the tank and waving to a cheering crowd as the siren blared.
A reliable police source, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the APC belongs to the Mobile Police 1.
The source, however, noted that the protesters did not gain entry into the APC but rather mounted it while the policemen inside maneuvered the vehicle to dislodge them.
When contacted, Mansur Hassan, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, stated that the APC had been safely returned.
He said, “The protesters did not take over our APC; they only mounted it. The policemen in the APC had to use tactical maneuvers to get them off to prevent any damage, and it was safely returned.”
Governor Uba Sani has declared a curfew in Kaduna metropolis and Zaria to curb the protesters’ excesses.
