The Enugu State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, has announced that the Ada Enugu Beauty Pageant will be conducted using only Enugu indigenous dialects and other cultural aspects of the state.

Madueke stated that the pageant, titled “Enugu to the World,” is an innovative event that will showcase the rich culture, traditions, and tourism potential of the Enugu people.

In a briefing with newsmen on Thursday, Madueke emphasized that the pageant will represent undiluted Igbo cultural affairs, aimed at uniting Enugu youths and countering the UNESCO prediction regarding the extinction of the Igbo language by 2050.

“The Ada Enugu Pageant will primarily focus on promoting the culture of Ndi-Enugu through various platforms, including the promotion of the indigenous dialect, clothing, and the food we eat. It will also foster youth development, capacity building, empowerment, economic emancipation, talent discovery, talent development, and the promotion of investment and tourism activities in Enugu State,” she said.

She recalled that Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, during the unveiling of his manifesto, presented a six-point agenda that includes the promotion of culture, tourism, and growing the state’s GDP from $4 billion to $30 billion.

“Therefore, we in the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Enugu State, can confidently assert that our governor is a promise keeper. The Ada Enugu Pageant is not just a pageant; it is an examination of leadership development through pageantry.”

The Managing Director of the event partner, Okechi Eke Ventures, Ozor Joel Eke, stated that the pageant will promote the tourism industry in Enugu to the world by encouraging peaceful coexistence among the people of Enugu and other regions of Nigeria, while attracting investors and tourists, thus boosting the state’s GDP.

Eke revealed that the targeted contestants will be drawn from high schools, colleges, and university undergraduates and graduates aged between 18 and 28 years.

“Contestants must either hail from Enugu State or have resided in Enugu for 15 years or more. A total of 20 contestants will be shortlisted, and the star prize for the pageant is a brand-new car. The first and second runners-up will receive prizes such as a refrigerator and a television. There will also be consolation prizes and certificates of participation at the event, which will take place on October 18 at the Base Event Center in Enugu.”
