President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the appointment of Mr. Michael Hadi Ango as the Acting Chairman of the Federal Capital Territory Internal Revenue Service (FCT-IRS).
A statement released on Friday by Anthony Ogunleye, Director of the Press Office of the FCT Minister, highlights Ango’s impressive credentials: “With an extensive background in revenue administration, financial management, and organizational leadership, Mr. Ango is equipped with a wealth of experience. Over his 20-year career across various public and private sectors, he has consistently demonstrated a passion for excellence and a flair for innovative revenue strategies.”
Ango’s academic achievements are equally noteworthy. He earned an LLM from Columbia University School of Law in 2019, a Bachelor of Law degree from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria in 2002, and completed his studies at the Nigeria Law School in 2003. Adding to his impressive portfolio, he participated in the prestigious Harvard Kennedy School of Government’s Executive Education program in Comparative Tax Policy and Administration in 2013.
His professional journey includes key positions: Partner and Head of the Tax Advisory and Regulatory Services Unit at Andersen LP, a global firm that emerged from Arthur Andersen; Head of Legal and Stakeholders Relations at the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending (NIRSAL) PLC, under the Central Bank of Nigeria; Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Guinness Nigeria PLC; and Technical Advisor to the CEO of the Federal Inland Revenue Service. He has also worked as an analyst and manager in Tax, Regulatory and People Services at KPMG Professional Services, Nigeria.
Ango has significantly contributed to various strategic committees, such as the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, the Ethics Committee of the FIA (International Automobile Federation), and the Fiscal Policy Reform Committee of Nigeria’s Ministry of Finance, among others. He is an active member of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria and the International Association of Privacy Professionals, to name just a few.
In his new role as Acting Chairman of the FCT-IRS, Ango is poised to spearhead critical initiatives aimed at boosting revenue generation and ensuring fiscal sustainability.
Ogunleye remarked, “His appointment is timely, as the FCT-IRS seeks to expand its revenue base, enhance taxpayer compliance, and streamline operations for increased efficiency and effectiveness.”
