The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has responded firmly to a misleading social media claim suggesting that corps members’ bank accounts would soon be upgraded to accommodate a new minimum wage of N70,000.

In a statement released by NYSC’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Eddy Megwa, on Saturday, the organization emphasized that there has been no official directive from the appropriate authorities to implement such a payment or to alter accounts.

“This report is not only misleading but categorically false,” the statement declared, urging corps members to remain vigilant against those looking to deceive.

The NYSC reassured corps members, their parents, and the public that no government directive regarding wage adjustments has been issued. “It is simply not possible for us to provide information that lacks foundation in official pronouncements,” it continued.

The corps urged members to utilize the approved channels of communication for accurate updates and to disregard unauthorized claims.

In light of this incident, the NYSC also cautioned bloggers and social media influencers against making unverified statements about the agency without due authorization.

“Let us not allow mischief makers continue to play on our intelligence,” the statement concluded, underscoring the importance of discernment in today’s rapidly evolving information landscape.
