Former Presidents Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari are among the esteemed attendees at the inaugural Council of State meeting under President Bola Tinubu’s administration this Tuesday.
The meeting is taking place within the hallowed walls of the State House Council Chambers at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Joining the discussions virtually are esteemed former Heads of State, General Yakubu Gowon (rtd) and General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd), lending their voices to the pivotal conversations at hand.
Notably present in the brief opening ceremony are governors from Abia, Adamawa, and Akwa Ibom States, each representing their States in this crucial assembly.
The Council of State, presided over by the President and Vice President, is a profound gathering that encompasses all living former Heads of State and Presidents, past and present Chief Justices of Nigeria, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, all state governors, and the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF).
This revered body serves as a vital advisory group on key policy-making decisions for the executive.
Looking back, the last meeting convened on February 10, 2023, under former President Buhari, tackled pressing topics such as the upcoming 2023 elections, the newly introduced Naira policy, and the ongoing fuel scarcity that has burdened many Nigerians.
