Gov. Fifteen months into his administration, Alex Otti of Abia has reorganized his cabinet. This is even as he assigned portfolios to six new commissioners sworn in on Wednesday.
David Kalu, Uwaoma Ukandu, and Enoch Uche have been appointed to the ministries of science and technology, finance, and health, respectively.
The chief press secretary to the governor, Ukoha Njoku, released a statement on Thursday to journalists in Umuahia announcing the news.
The governor established the Ministry of Labour and Productivity, appointing Sunny Onwuma, the former transport commissioner, as its head.
Mr. Otti also established the Ministry of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, separating it from the Ministry of Information and Culture, and appointed Matthew Ekwuribe as the commissioner.
He divided the Ministry of Education into two entities: the Ministry of Secondary and Basic Education with Goodluck Ubochi as commissioner, and the Ministry of Tertiary Education with Uche Eme Uche as commissioner.
The Ministry of Poverty Alleviation and Social Protection was formed from the Ministry of Women Affairs with Maureen Aghukwa as the commissioner.
The ministry was divided into the Ministry of Trade and Commerce, led by Commissioner Kingsley Nwokocha, and the Ministry of Industry, Small and Medium Enterprises, with Mike Akpara as the commissioner.
Dr. Chimezie Ukaegbu, formerly the commissioner for trade, commerce, and industry, has been transferred to the ministry of transport.
The agriculture ministry has not appointed a new commissioner since Prof. Monica Ironkwe resigned on July 16.
