Rivers Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has sent a clear message to his appointees: misbehavior will not be tolerated, and he will not hesitate to terminate anyone who strays from the path of duty.

This stern warning came on Friday during the swearing-in of six new permanent secretaries, an event that marked the beginning of a new chapter in the state’s civil service.

Addressing the newly appointed officials, the Governor emphasized that their ascension to these esteemed positions was not merely a recognition of past dedication but a mandate for enhanced service to the people of Rivers State. “You have been chosen for your commitment,” he declared, urging them to embody integrity and productivity, always prioritizing the interests of the state.

Governor Fubara made it crystal clear: “Going forward, I will not assign contract services to permanent secretaries. This change is vital; we must ensure that opportunities remain for those who will follow in your footsteps.” He underscored the importance of fostering growth within the service for the benefit of future generations.

With palpable intensity, he challenged his appointees to be exemplary ambassadors in their respective ministries: “Do not bring disgrace upon us. Your singular duty is to the government. While someone may have recommended you, I am focused not on who brought you here but on what you can achieve for the government and the people of Rivers State.”

He issued a firm ultimatum: “If you misbehave, I will show you the door. This government is rooted in service.”

Governor Fubara underlined the imperative of serving the very people who have shown unwavering support for his administration. “We owe them good reason to trust us,” he stated passionately.

In a moment that highlighted both the challenges and resilience within his administration, Fubara recounted an incident involving a civil servant who was approached by detractors attempting to destabilize his government. To his delight, the civil servant refused their enticing offers, demonstrating loyalty and integrity.

“This individual’s refusal to abandon a government that has supported them is a testament to the good we strive for,” Fubara remarked, unable to conceal his appreciation.

“The reforms we are implementing are designed to ignite productivity, foster inclusive growth, and enhance the quality of service,” he explained. The Governor charged the new Permanent Secretaries to adopt these principles, driving the State Civil Service towards unprecedented standards of excellence.

The six newly appointed Permanent Secretaries are Dr. Mekele Comfort Igwe; Mrs. Anthonia I. Ekiseh; Dr. Azibaolanari Uzoma-Nwogu; Mrs. Ihuoma Patience Ray-Boms; Mr. Nwizug Gonee Gordon; and Mr. Chukwuma Ndudi August Ine.
