In the predawn hours of Sunday, a ferocious fire erupted, mercilessly consuming two shops at the bustling Mainline of Mgbuka Obosi market in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Thanks to the swift response of firefighters, many other establishments were spared from the relentless blaze.

Chukwudi Chiketa, the chief fire officer of Anambra Fire Service, confirmed the harrowing event to reporters in Onitsha later that day.

“The Anambra Fire Service received an urgent distress call at 2:00 a.m. reporting a raging fire at Mainline of Mgbuka Obosi market,” Mr. Chiketa recounted.

“Our brave firefighters and equipment were dispatched without delay, battling fiercely to contain the inferno.”

Eerily, there were no casualties, but the flames left devastation in their wake, scorching two stores and a provision shop, while narrowly sparing numerous others from the fiery grasp.

“Preliminary investigations point to a power surge as the ignition of this chaos,” he warned.

He urged the community to maintain a vigilant approach to safety, reminding them that fire, when left unchecked, is a voracious force capable of unimaginable destruction.
