Vice President Kashim Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has declared that President Bola Tinubu inherited a shattered economy from his predecessor, Muhammadu Buhari.

He stated this at the launch of the book titled ‘Navigating the Politics of Universal Education Policies in Nigeria,’ authored by Prof. Modupe Adelabu, a distinguished retired professor of Educational Administration at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

Despite being part of the Buhari administration, Mr. Shettima asserted that the Tinubu administration is resolutely committed to resurrecting the lifeless economy.

He fervently urged Nigerians to unite behind Mr. Tinubu as he confronts the daunting socio-political, economic, and security challenges facing the nation.

Mr. Shettima urged: “In President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we have a leader worthy of our trust. This isn’t mere political rhetoric; these are words from the heart. I have glimpsed the essence of Bola Tinubu, and his spirit is noble.

“He genuinely yearns for a flourishing nation. He aspires to leave a legacy etched in the annals of history— not to indulge in primitive wealth accumulation. He is the most vilified politician in Nigeria.

“When I first visited his residence at Bourdillon, I expected to see a grand estate akin to Buckingham Palace, replete with lush gardens and extravagant pools. Yet, I found nothing remarkable—my own house in Maiduguri outshines his dwelling.

“Even during our formative meetings with the APC at his home, where a feast was laid before us, he chose the humble garri and groundnuts for lunch. Throughout our acquaintance, he has consistently worn the same wristwatch, and quite frankly, I dress better than he does.

“He remains indifferent to such superficial matters. He perseveres through adversity without the frills of fashion. So, let us rally around this humble man. He has taken audacious steps forward. The economy we inherited was an absolute disaster.

“But we cannot shy away from our role; we were part of the Buhari administration, and we must face the truth about our political lineage. It’s not about shifting blame, but about forging solutions to our nation’s urgent needs.

“We were acutely aware of the challenges. Disregard the political theatrics of Atiku Abubakar and the obedient crowd; they claim they will pull back the fuel subsidy, but we must focus on genuine progress.”
