A Nigerian soldier, Sergeant Saad Adamu, with service number 05NA/56/385, was arrested in Borno State under alarming circumstances as he was reportedly caught with an astonishing 485 rounds of illegal ammunition.
The shocking discovery unfolded at Njimtilo along the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, where Sergeant Adamu was found with 485 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and two magazines cleverly concealed within cartons of dry fish.
The military signal cited by SaharaReporters sheds light on his dubious actions: Adamu, a member of the 3 Division Ordnance Services (3 DOS), had deserted his unit in Jos, embarking on a suspicious journey to Maiduguri without official permission.
In the course of preliminary investigations, Adamu allegedly revealed a shocking connection, confessing that the ammunition was supplied to him by Sergeant Dalhatu Murtala, service number 07NA/60/0940, the armourer of the 19 Brigade Garrison in Baga.
Among the seized items, the cache included 313 rounds of 7.62mm PKT ammo, 172 rounds of 7.62mm special ammo, and two magazines—all artfully hidden in a bag mixed with cucumbers and the unassuming cartons of dry fish.
Now, both the suspects and the recovered items are in the custody of the 7 Division Provost Group, as further investigations unfold into this deepening military scandal.
