In light of the extended conflict between Siminalayi Fubara, the current governor of Rivers State, and Nyesom Wike, the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister Wike has pledged to remain with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and insists on continuing his struggle to the very end.
During a media chat with selected news broadcast stations in Abuja to commemorate his first year in office, Wike stated that he does not shy away from a confrontation and is committed to seeing it through to its conclusion.
“I have already informed you that I do not shy away from any confrontation. I will remain steadfast and we will resolve this matter within the PDP. Who would I flee from? The so-called ‘vampires’?” Wike asserted.
The minister, addressing comments labeling him as a fifth columnist within the PDP aiming to undermine the party, clarified that as a PDP member, he openly chose not to back the party’s presidential candidate.
He stated, “Those individuals making such claims, did they bring forth any candidates who won? The PDP did not emerge victorious. I upheld my position, insisting that without certain actions being fulfilled, we would not accept the outcome.”
Responding to the question that suggests the crisis may remain unresolved in this election cycle, except through convention and judicial intervention, Wike stated that the root cause of the crisis is the greed of certain individuals.
What I am emphasizing, and what cannot be ignored, is the importance of adhering to the law. Regardless of personal feelings towards this individual, we must abide by legal principles. What does the law dictate? r>. It is not a matter of devising strategies to undermine Wike, because you cannot succeed in doing so. You lack the necessary means to undermine Wike.
“Wike is merely emphasizing the importance of adhering to the law and the party’s constitution. As a prominent party member, I cannot simply stand by and permit someone to be appointed to oversee elected individuals,” he stated.
The minister elaborated that the national chairman of a party is chosen through an election rather than by appointment.
If you are designating a caretaker, you may appoint an individual for the role; however, presiding over elected members requires an election conducted via a convention. r>. I am a member of the PDP and it is imperative that the law is adhered to. You will invite a crisis upon yourself if you believe you can make decisions in isolation, he stated.
