Residents of the Nepa community in Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State have apprehended a suspected kidnapper after collecting a N1.5 million ransom from the desperate relatives of his victims.
The spokesman for the state police command, DSP Alabor Alfred, confirmed the incident to our correspondent, revealing that the suspect is currently being scrutinized at the anti-kidnapping unit, where the gravity of his deeds will be extensively examined.
An anonymous vigilante from the Nepa community shared their account with Daily Trust on Thursday, explaining that after the suspect was caught by the vigilant residents, he was swiftly handed over to the local vigilante group, the embodiment of justice in their neighborhood.
He recounted the harrowing details of the case, stating, “The kidnapper had abducted two innocent children, one merely four years old and the other just five. After receiving a ransom of N1.5 million, he did not release them as expected.
“The following day, when he returned to an unoccupied building where he was keeping the minors, people passing by heard the kids crying and immediately rushed towards the building. Upon arrival, the kidnapper, who was with the minors, jumped out of the window, but as people screamed and shouted ‘Kidnapper,’ men and women from the community came out in large number and caught him.
“The resident then handed him over to the community vigilante group which took him to Laranto Police station along with the sum of N1,492,000 that he had already collected from the parents of the victims.”
