A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kwara state, Dr. Abdulmumin Ajia has resigned from the ruling party.
In a letter to the state APC Chairman, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, Dr. Ajia cited the party’s “gross incompetence” and “loss of legitimacy” under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as the reasons for his departure.
Ajia, who was the governorship candidate for the Abundant Nigeria Renewal Party (ANRP) in Kwara during the 2019 general elections, expressed disappointment in the party’s failure to fulfill its promises.
“Instead, the party has brought misery and death to Nigerians,” he added.
He urged like-minded individuals to join him in leaving the ruling party and work towards achieving “real change” in Nigeria.
Ajia according to Daily Trust, confirmed the news and stated that his recent criticisms of the APC leadership had ignited debate within political circles.
He noted that there is “growing discontent among some party members in the state.”
Regarding the nationwide protests against the hardships faced in the country, Ajia expressed support for the demonstrations and accused the government of being insensitive.
“I understand this situation didn’t begin today, but there has to be a point where people say enough is enough.
“It’s truly shameful that those in government are living lavishly, seemingly unaffected by hunger, while they continue to urge ordinary citizens to persevere. Why isn’t the burden of sacrifice shared equally?
“I stand in solidarity with those who believe that this country can and must do better for all.”
When contacted for comment, the state chairman of the APC, Prince Sunday Fagbemi, stated that the party would not be distracted.
“This is a free world. He came to us from another party, and now he is dissatisfied again and leaving. We wish him all the best, but our focus remains on the people, and we have demonstrated our capacity,” he said.
