The controversy surrounding the anti-party activities of the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, is far from over. A pro-democracy youth group within the Abia PDP, the Action Youths for Democracy, has publicly called on him to stop his damaging efforts to undermine the PDP in Abia and throughout Nigeria.

This statement from the youth group follows Wabara’s highly controversial comments endorsing Abia Governor Alex Otti for a second term in the 2027 gubernatorial election.

Speaking to journalists recently, the group’s spokesperson, Chief Ude Njoku Ukwen, expressed concern over Wabara’s declaration that Governor Otti has already secured a second term, raising serious questions about Wabara’s intentions and loyalty to the party.

Wabara’s statement has drawn sharp criticism from numerous individuals within and outside the PDP. Many believe that such a declaration is inappropriate coming from a high-ranking official in the PDP, as it is not only premature but also harmful to the reputation and stability of the Abia PDP.

Adding to the outrage, FCT Minister Mr. Nyesom Wike criticized Wabara for his reckless and irresponsible remarks, urging him to refrain from further actions that could tarnish the PDP’s reputation.

Notably, at the time Wabara endorsed Otti for a second term, Otti had yet to complete his first year in office. Many PDP members feel that this endorsement sends a troubling message about the party’s electoral integrity.

Statements like Wabara’s can lead to misconceptions of entitlement over meritocracy within Abia State.

Moreover, there are disturbing allegations that Adolphus Wabara is receiving financial support from Governor Otti to facilitate actions that could undermine the PDP’s stability and electoral prospects ahead of the 2027 elections.

This accusation is based on claims that Wabara and his associates received N50 million from Otti during Wabara’s birthday celebration held by the PDP in Abia State. Such actions are likened to colluding with an adversary, raising concerns that accepting this monetary gift is merely an inducement from the LP government intended to destabilize the PDP.

This situation is especially troubling, considering that Wabara is supposed to lead and protect the PDP at the highest level yet finds himself at the center of this controversy.

Senator Wabara’s actions highlight the significant risks associated with his alliances with the LP and cast doubt on his credibility and integrity as the BoT Chair of the PDP.

It is worth noting that Senator Adolph Wabara served as Senate President during President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration and is the first key political figure to fail to secure any federal infrastructure for his village, local government area, or the broader Abia South senatorial zone. His tenure was marked by a lack of significant development projects, leading to dissatisfaction among constituents who expected more from their representative.

Consequently, party members are urged to engage all stakeholders in open and honest discussions to swiftly repair the damage done to the party by the reckless statements and actions of the PDP BoT Chairman.

PDP stakeholders demand accountability, responsibility, and responsiveness from Wabara and are calling for his resignation as Chairman of the PDP BoT, as he has demonstrated a clear inability to lead the party into the future.
