As the sun rose high over Omor Anaukwu Kingdom, all eyes turned to the majestic palace of HRH Igwe Chris Oranu Chidume MON. The air buzzed with excitement as the Eze Igulube of Omor Community prepared to mark the vibrant IWA JI OMOR FESTIVAL on Saturday, August 25, 2024, a day dedicated to giving thanks to Chukwuokike (God the Creator) for a remarkably bountiful harvest and seeking His blessings for the future.

Standing before a gathering of jubilant Ndi Omor, Igwe Chris Oranu Chidume, a revered leader and industrial magnate, raised his voice in gratitude. “We are blessed with both rain and harvest this year,” he proclaimed, his words resonating with the hearts of the farmers and families in attendance.

With sincere admiration, he praised the unwavering dedication of the Ndi Omor to agricultural production, not just in Omabala but across Anambra State.

Yet, his message went beyond gratitude; he urged his people to recognize agriculture as a powerful catalyst for change. “Returning to agriculture is our path to revitalizing our local governments and positively impacting our state’s economy,” he asserted, his passion igniting the crowd.

Acknowledging the strides made under Governor Charles Soludo CFR, Igwe Chidume shared his vision for a transformed Anambra. However, he did not shy away from addressing pressing issues, passionately appealing for government intervention on the dire state of the roads leading to Ayamelum.

“Good access roads are essential for our farming communities, which struggle to transport their produce to the cities,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of infrastructure in supporting the agrarian lifestyle.

The Igwe’s call to action was clear and urgent: “Embrace the ongoing agricultural revolution initiated by Governor Prof. Charles Soludo. Together, we can combat hunger and unlock our state’s potential for growth and development.” His eyes sparkled with conviction as he challenged the youth, saying, “Farming is not just a means to an end; it is a path to reduce unemployment and alleviate poverty and insecurity. Let us work together to feed our people, our state, and indeed, our nation.”

The festival showcased an array of esteemed guests, from the Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somto Udeze, to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, and many traditional rulers who graced the occasion with their presence.

Amid laughter, music, and the rhythmic beat of cultural dances, the high points of the event illuminated the community spirit: heartfelt prayers, the traditional slicing of yam to mark the Iwa Ji Festival, and the vibrant display of masquerades captured the essence of unity and celebration in Omor.
