In Enugu State, a clarion call has been sounded for a rigorous crackdown on unqualified individuals in the real estate sector—a move that many believe is essential for the industry’s growth and stability.

During a chat with journalists on Thursday, Mr. Chukwubuikem Onyekachi, the Chief Executive Officer of Powell Homes and Shelters Limited, voiced his urgent concerns over the alarming influx of these rogue practitioners. He asserted that their presence is not just a nuisance; it threatens the very fabric of integrity and professionalism within the real estate marketplace.

“The rise of quacks in Enugu’s real estate sector has surged to worrisome proportions,” Mr. Onyekachi warned, highlighting how this influx “jeopardizes the credibility of genuine professionals and destabilizes the housing market. His passionate appeal is clear: immediate and robust action is crucial to shield investors and residents alike from the damaging consequences wrought by these illegitimate operators.

As the Publicity Secretary for the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria in Enugu State, Mr. Onyekachi reiterated the vital need for upholding industry standards. “Quacks don’t just disrupt the market; they erode the trust that is the cornerstone of successful real estate transactions,” he emphasized, urging the government to take the lead in restoring that trust.

He proposed that state authorities introduce stricter regulations and comprehensive licensing requirements to stifle the activities of these unqualified individuals. “By establishing rigorous standards and ensuring compliance, the government can protect the interests of both property developers and consumers, cultivating a more trustworthy and secure real estate environment,” he insisted.

Mr. Onyekachi implored the Enugu State Government to take decisive measures by crafting and enforcing policies that directly tackle these pressing challenges. “It’s imperative for the government to step in and effectively regulate the real estate sector, thus fostering sustainable development and enhancing the state’s economic outlook.”

In a spirit of encouragement, he also praised Governor Ndubuisi Mbah for his remarkable achievements in the state, noting how they have significantly attracted investors and spurred economic development. “Governor Mbah’s efforts have played a pivotal role in drawing investors to Enugu, paving the way for growth and progress,” he remarked with hope for the future.
