Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in 2023, has stated that he is not focused on the politics of the 2027 elections.

Atiku conveyed this message through his media adviser, Paul Ibe, in a statement released on Thursday night.

Ibe explained that the former Vice President is occupied with current issues, particularly the hardships faced by many Nigerians since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023.

This statement comes in response to recent comments by Bode George, the former deputy national chairman (south) of the PDP, who suggested that Atiku should consider stepping back from active politics until 2031 if he still aims for the presidency.

Responding to George’s remarks on Thursday, Ibe emphasized that Atiku’s focus is on the pressing challenges facing Nigeria, rather than the politics of 2027.

“At this moment, Atiku Abubakar is not concerned about 2027. His priority is 2024,” Ibe stated.

“It encompasses 2025, 2026, and beyond. His concern lies with the plight of Nigerians, who are enduring significant hardship due to the unsuccessful policies of this administration.”

Ibe further criticized the current government, stating that it is “insensitive” to discuss future elections while Nigerians are suffering under the existing leadership.

He also urged George to focus on advising President Tinubu to reconsider policies that have exacerbated poverty and division in the country, instead of concentrating on the politics of 2027.
