The Zamfara State Police Command has issued a vehement condemnation of the brutal killing of one of its own, Halliru Liman, shot dead by military personnel at a checkpoint.
In a call for justice, the command demands an exhaustive investigation into this shocking incident, insisting that those culpable must face the full force of the law.
“Our hearts are heavy with sorrow and outrage over the senseless murder of SP Liman, the Divisional Police Officer for Wasagu in Kebbi State,” stated ASP Yazid Abubakar, the command’s spokesperson, in a press briefing on Thursday.
The details of the incident are harrowing. On his way to a crucial meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Liman was halted in the Danmarke area of Bukkuyum Local Government Area. Despite clearly identifying himself as a police officer, he was met with a violent end.
In a grave display of aggression, the military personnel’s leader, Hassan, took aim at the unarmed officer and fired a fatal shot to his head, extinguishing Liman’s life instantly.
“This brutal act is an affront to the principles of law enforcement and civil order,” Abubakar continued.
“The circumstances surrounding this heinous crime are not just alarming; they are absolutely unacceptable. We unequivocally condemn this unwarranted attack and call for immediate action.”
He stressed the need for unity between police and military forces to uphold peace and security, rather than engaging in violent confrontations that erode public trust.
“We extend our deepest condolences to the family and colleagues of SP Halliru Liman. We vow to pursue justice relentlessly, to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for this tragic loss.”
