The Enugu State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has successfully elected a new 39-member State Executive Committee, with Dr. Martin Chukwunweike, a former Commissioner for Housing, elected as the new Chairman.
The results were announced by a six-member PDP Enugu State Congress Electoral Committee, led by Toni Iyoha.
Others elected during the peaceful state congress in the capital, which included Governor Peter Mbah as one of the delegates, were Barr. Stephen Oruruo as Deputy Chairman; Chukwudi Nnadozie as Secretary; Patrick Okoh as Treasurer; Fide Odoh as Legal Adviser; Peace Patrick as Woman Leader; Hon. Ejike Itodo as Financial Secretary; Tobias Odinwakpa as Auditor; Uche Obute as Publicity Secretary; Engr. Onyinye Adibe as Organising Secretary; Hon. Benneth Ajah as Youth Leader; Nnamdi Nwafor as Vice Chairman (Enugu East Zone); Fabian Onah as Vice Chairman (Enugu North Zone); and Ernest Nweze as Vice Chairman (Enugu West).
Also elected were Uche Ugwueze as Assistant Auditor; Tony Nwoye as Assistant Legal Adviser; Ukamaka Alinta as Assistant Financial Secretary; Chidiebere Okoh as Assistant PRO; Kenechukwu Ejimofor as Assistant Secretary; Zara Obodoeze as Assistant Woman Leader (Enugu West Zone); and Christopher Ani as Assistant Youth Leader (Enugu East Zone).
Barr. Lovina Eneh as Assistant Organising Secretary (Enugu West Zone); Engr. Lawrence Okafor as Assistant Treasurer (Enugu West Zone); Barr. Duke Nwafor as Assistant Secretary (Enugu East Zone); Theresa Ogbodo as Assistant Woman Leader (Enugu East Zone); Hon. Ejike Ilo as Assistant Youth Leader (Enugu West Zone); Eneali Amobi as Assistant Organising Secretary (Enugu East Zone); Cosmas Ugwu as Assistant Treasurer (Enugu North Zone); Martins Ugwuamadieze as Assistant Secretary (Enugu North Zone); Ngozi Ezeja as Assistant Woman Leader (Enugu North Zone); Hyginus Nwachukwu as Assistant Youth Leader (Enugu North Zone); Tony Nwagbo as Assistant Organising Secretary (Enugu North Zone); and Ikechukwu Agbo as Assistant Treasurer (Enugu East Zone).
Nnanna Orjibe, Anayo Chude, Emmanuel Igbokwe, Lilian Ugwoke, Chukwuma Nwagbo, and Alphonsus Nweze were elected to serve as Ex-Officio members.
In remarks made on behalf of the new State Executive Committee, Chairman Dr. Chukwunweike committed to leading the party with loyalty, equity, and fairness, emphasizing the need to strengthen the party’s presence in the state. He highlighted that the new executive’s first task will be to ensure the party retains chairmanship in all 17 local government councils during the upcoming elections.
“I assure our party leaders and the entire state that we will build upon the foundation laid by the previous executives. Any issues that arose will be addressed, and the PDP will emerge stronger in Enugu State.
“It is also clear that in the coming weeks, we will elect local government chairmen and councilors. We will work diligently to ensure that we continue to hold all 17 councils.”
Newly elected Woman Leader, Hon. Peace Patrick, pledged to promote women’s interests within the party and encourage their support for Governor Mbah’s administration.
In his valedictory address, outgoing Chairman Hon. Augustine Nnamani expressed gratitude to party leaders and members for their support of his administration and promised to keep working for the success of the party and the Mbah-led administration.
The congress saw a significant turnout of party members and leaders.
